Chelsea Handler is vaccinated, horny and ready to get back on stage.
The comedian is launching a standup comedy show, the “Vaccinated and Horny Tour,” this summer through the end of 2021, Variety has learned.
Handler has set 40 nationwide dates with tickets going on sale Friday, June 18. Live Nation is handling the tour.
The tour comes as live events are slowly becoming to come back following a year and a half of concerts, shows, comedy and theater being shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. With vaccinations rolling out, Handler wants the world to know that she is vaccinated — and horny, hence the title of her latest show.
“Never have I been so confident about my decision-making in remaining childless and alone than I did during this pandemic. I can’t count how many times I high-fived myself every time a friend used the term ‘homeschooling,’ ” Handler tells Variety. “But, as a permanent single professional, I do like to get my groove on, and the best way to get that across is to make it the title of the tour. Now, everyone will know that I’m horny. And that I’m vaccinated.”

Handler — who most recently received rave reviews for her HBO Max standup special “Chelsea Handler: Evolution” — believes that laughter is the best medicine after a global pandemic and to bring people back together.

“I’m so excited to get back on stage because this is the time for people to come together in large groups again, and I want to be a reason people come together. My job is to bring joy and laughter and comfort to as many people as I can. This is the moment to light up and live it up,” she says. “I’ve done a few shows at some smaller clubs to prepare for this tour, and the feeling of laughter in large groups is the thing that everyone will realize they missed the most. We have to heal ourselves, and the fastest way to heal is through laughter.”
“Vaccinated and Horny” marks Handler’s first tour since 2019. Prior to the pandemic, she went on her “Life Will Be the Death of Me Tour,” based on her most recent book.
Over time, and especially in recent years, as she’s gone from E!’s “Chelsea Lately” to a mega Netflix deal and finally to HBO Max in 2020, Handler has evolved from raunchy comedian to activist, and her passion for social justice issues and human rights has been infused into her comedy brand.
“Evolution,” her first standup special in six years, covered her journey through therapy and deftly mixed serious subject matter like race, white privilege and sexual harassment with comedy.
Speaking about her upcoming summer tour, Handler cracks, “This tour is so different than my past standup tours, because I’m an adult who has done this now for 20 years, and I can finally say I’m a professional.”
Handler hosted E!’s “Chelsea Lately” for seven years as the only woman in late-night talk when the show premiered in 2007. In 2016, she launched her documentary series “Chelsea Does” and a talk show on Netflix. She has written six best-selling books, and recently launched an advice podcast with iHeart Radio called “Dear Chelsea.”
